What is Aluzinc Steel?

Britmet’s granulated metal roofing profiles are made using Alu-Zinc steel, a compound renowned for its unparalleled strength and corrosion resistance within the steel industry. Each profile is coated with an even layer of pigmented base coat primer that the natural stone granules are bonded to. When this is all set, the final overglaze is applied to secure the granules and provide you with a weatherproof roof.

What is Aluzinc Steel?

Aluzinc steel is created by hot dipping steel into a bath of molten aluminium and zinc, which causes the metals to react and form a tightly bonded alloy coating on the surface of the steel. It consists of 55% aluminium, 43.4% zinc and 1.6% silicon.

It’s a popular choice for many industrial and construction applications due to its excellent corrosion resistance and durability. The aluminium in the alloy coating creates a barrier that prevents oxygen and water from reaching the steel, preventing rust and other forms of corrosion.

Another advantage of Aluzinc steel is its durability. The alloy coating is tightly bonded to the surface of the steel, which means that it can withstand harsh environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, heavy rain, and exposure to chemicals. This makes Aluzinc steel an ideal material for roofing, wall cladding, and other applications that require long-lasting durability.

Tests have shown that Aluzinc steel last 3-7 times longer than conventional Galvanised and Aluminium steel sheets, depending on the environmental conditions.

Aluzinc steel is also lightweight and easy to work with, making it a popular choice for automotive parts, appliances, and other products that require strength and durability without adding unnecessary weight.

In addition to its practical benefits, Aluzinc steel is also an environmentally friendly choice. The aluminium and zinc in the coating are both recyclable materials, which means that they can be reused to create new products, reducing waste, and conserving natural resources, without affecting the integrity of the product. Steel is an easy material to recycle and emits less CO2 during its production than other common building materials, such as aluminium.

Overall, Aluzinc steel is a versatile and durable material that offers excellent corrosion resistance, making it a popular choice for a wide range of industrial and construction applications. Head over to our Lightweight Roofing page to see more.
