2022 - The Year of Motorsport

Our sponsored motorsport rising star, Tristan Powell, has finished his second season competing in the Daniel Ricciardo Series (DRS) 2022, finishing in an impressive 5th place in the championship.

Tristan sat down with our Senior Marketing Executive, Bridey Aris, to discuss his time competing in the DRS and what he’s learned from the experience so far. The 15-year-old motorsport star sat down in his race suit specially designed for his time racing in the DRS and Junior x30. When asked to explain the design, Tristan said that his Team Croc Promotion and Junior x30 suit contains logos of his sponsors, including Britmet, Flegg Projects, and Pixel Concepts.  

At 15 years old, Tristan already has an impressive track record including multiple heat wins in the DRS championship and an incredible debut at the EasyKart World Finals, Tristan qualified in 6th position. After some bad luck in the heats, Tristan managed to go from 23rd to 10th position before penalties, without any damage to his front spoiler. His race team were “almost in tears” from the recovery, proving himself as a force to be reckoned with. 

Britmet and Pixel Concepts have been sponsoring Tristan for two seasons, and new sponsor Flegg Projects came on board to support Tristan after their MD was so impressed with Tristan’s abilities at a go-karting facility. When reflecting on the opportunity, Tristan said, “I raced one day at Daytona, Milton Keynes, and by chance, I raced (Flegg Projects) owner and won. He was so impressed, he decided to sponsor me.” From then on, Flegg has been an avid supporter of Tristan. 

Tristan has been strongly supported and inspired to get into racing by his family, being the third generation of racing drivers. Tristan continues “I grew up watching The British Touring Championship” and watching “a lot of F1”, mentioning that his heroes are “Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel”. He also mentioned that he was lucky enough to meet Mercedes F1 driver, George Russell, at Whilton Mill Karting track. 

Going into the new year, Tristan said “we have decided to step up to Junior X30 in the Official Wera Tools British Kart Championships”. I will be racing some of the most talented drivers in Europe next year, it’s going to be a tough challenge and I can’t wait!
